Founded in 2008 by George Akkerman, GWS Foodservice Solutions continues to adapt to the demands of South Australia's bakery and food industry.

George utilises his immense knowledge of the sector to service his clients by satisfying their precise needs with a variety of offerings. It is this versatility, coupled with 50 years of experience, that allows GWS Foodservice Solutions to offer a holistic approach to Adelaide's baking community.


Forming the fundamentals.

George had his first taste of the baking industry as a teenager working in his parent's bakery in Truro (located just outside of the Barossa Valley) in the early 1970s. As a result, his principles are grounded in traditional baking methods, which form the foundation of his comprehensive expertise.

Cultivating an understanding of South Australia's baking industry.

After developing his leadership skills over a number of managerial positions through the 1980s, George established Akkerman's Blackwood Bakery in the southern foothills of Adelaide in 1990. On top of the day-to-day running of the business, George regularly conducted staff training sessions, marketed new products, increased exposure of the brand and controlled cost and loss figures. Today, the bakery is under its third ownership but still retains the same original 'Akkerman' name.

In 1998, George sold the business and commenced employment as a Technical Sales Representative with Laucke Flour Mills. In this new position, he gained an intimate understanding of Adelaide's baking industry while servicing the state's extensive food processing community.

In 2002, he joined Inpak Foods again as a Technical Sales Representative and continued to nurture his commercial expertise. This change allowed George to strengthen his people management skills, special marketing abilities, budgeting knowledge and customer interactions while maintaining the company's production standards. 

In 2008, George reignited his entrepreneurial career by establishing GWS Foodservice Solutions with the aim of educating South Australia's baking and food sector. Today, this professional purpose encompasses business owner mentoring, on-site training, and guiding the next generation of bakers as a lecturer at TAFE SA.

George offers his 50 years of industry experience to Adelaide's baking community.
